About MS PIRE:


PIRE: A U.S. - Dutch Mass Spectrometry Consortium for Advanced Modeling and Biological Structure and Imaging Applications
This MS PIRE program was developed to establish a United States – Dutch Mass Spectrometry Consortium to facilitate dramatic advances in several areas of analytical, biological, and physical chemistry. The research and educational activities associated with this program are centered about unique instrumentation and cyber-infrastructure that has been developed at two of the national research institutes of the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) in the Netherlands, the FOM Institute for Plasma Physics “Rijnhuizen” and the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF).

The initial participants of this consortium include 10 U.S. research groups from nine distinct institutions of higher learning. As this program has evolved, we have expanded (and will continue to do so) the base of U.S. researchers involved in this consortium. In particular, the MS PIRE program seeks to recruit beginning investigators, and will continue to do so.



REU Program
A U.S.-Netherlands Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program is an integral part of the MS PIRE’s educational mission that provides financial support and training for U.S. undergraduate students at the Dutch facilities each summer. Interested students should see the “PIRE REU Program” page for information and application materials.


MS PIRE
The MS PIRE Program provides support for both short term visits and extended stays (using FOM-supported guest houses) by senior personnel, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, and undergraduates from the various U.S. participant research groups. The MS PIRE program also promotes educational and cultural experiences of the various U.S. participants during their visits to the Dutch facilities.
